..so, how are you all doing out there? I know it seems like I’ve literally dropped off the face of the planet, again, especially where this fic is concerned.
When I started posting it again in March, I had plans to update at least every 2 weeks until the fic was finished for all of you. I used to do this at my grandfather’s house, but as of late April, on the night I was planning to post the next chapter out for you, my grandpa passed away.
It was peaceful for him, but it is still raw for me. I just wanted you guys out there to know I am still here, this fic is still not forgotten, and I am thinking of all of you. So, I will be back soon.
In other news, I am looking at a release date to Amazon for my book ‘the Warrior in the Pit’ in about three months. It is W|W and about a warrior that was taken from her homeworld and made to fight to the death in an arena …and the woman who one day rescues her. I will have more about it on my website at universe_of_imagination soon. Until then, it is posting chapter by chapter on my Patreon and I will be posting chapter 12 today.
“Is that the best you’ve got?!” Casion taunted in nearly perfect Fol. Throwing the bloody ax aside with an angry clatter, she motioned inward towards her chest with both hands, “come on!”
As though in answer, another gate clanked open behind Casion, and she turned slowly to face it. For a second, there was nothing but silence as everyone waited with bated breath. Then a loud roar of rage from behind that opened gate shook the arena, and Kaia felt her nerves turn into jelly. She gripped the rail in front of her chair and stared out at Casion, whose eyes were riveted on the opened gate. Slow, pounding steps started to shake the floor. The steps got faster, and Casion took one step back and then another.
A raptor shot out, roaring as it charged. Casion turned and ran, but it was at full speed and close on her heels, taller than her by at least two feet. Kaia snapped her hands over her mouth as she followed the warrior’s mad dash with her eyes.
“Well!” the announcer started laughing, “seems like she got what she asked for.”
“Shut up,” Kaia growled at him between her teeth. But she wasn’t able to tear her eyes away from Casion, who was running, arms pumping, teeth grinding, head thrown back, with the raptor right behind her.

(EDIT: A link to the first part of Chapter 1 has been added below.)
Years ago, a young warrior named Casion vanished from her homeworld of Breva without a trace. It has been too long. As a Headhunter, Kaia knows the case is cold. But she is still determined to find her.
Following the arrest of a notorious slave-trader, a new lead drops unexpectedly into her lap. Pursuing it means she will go it alone, undercover, into a dangerous area of space.
But a Brevian sold there was fighting in a pit, in the bottom of an asteroid – filled with escaped prisoners.
-=Prologue=-
The box was thick metal, and too small for Casion to stand up in. Her breath froze in the air as she peered out of the bars at its front. It was pitch black, wherever she was. The scent of death and blood turned her stomach, and wailing echoed in her ears. It came from the other boxes stacked around and on top of her, just like they had been in the hold of that ship.
Because of the noise, Casion couldn’t hear anything that might tell her where she was, “quiet!” She shouted. No one understood her language. But they understood her tone. The air went silent and Casion pressed herself as far as she could against the front of her cage and listened into the distance. After a few seconds she was sure steps were coming their way, two sets of bipedal feet, lighter, most likely both women.
“I’m glad to be able to offer you first pick.”
A woman laughed, “you are privileged, Darling, aren’t you?”
